World Wide Laugh

We are now accepting videos on the theme of laugh and peace that people world wide can laugh at.
A first prize of 1 million yen will be awarded to the winner of the Grand Prix. Transcend the language barrier and bring smiles to faces world wide with your video production!

What is World Wide Laugh?

World Wide Laugh is a new genre of competition for "comedy video content" which YOSHIMOTO KOGYO CO., LTD. that is very particular about "laughter" transmits to the world.
The only rule of the entries is to make people all over the world laugh without being translated. The entries (the running time of the video is no more than two minutes) are going to be seen through the Internet by people all over the world and we will invite people with different mother languages from many different countries as a judge in the screening event.
What sort of entry makes people all over the world laugh? Please look at the result.

The Okinawa International Movie Festival Outline of the World Wide Laugh

■Theme for submissions

Please make a movie on the Okinawa International Movie Festival’s theme of “Laugh and Peace” that irrespective of language will make people all around the world laugh. Your production could become a hot topic in some country somewhere!

■Content of entries

Anyone can submit a production for the World Wide Laugh category, provided that it meets the following conditions.

  1. A video which can make people of any nationality laugh even without being translated.
  2. The running time of the movie is no more than two minutes.
  3. Please specify a title in English.
■Judging method

The movie festival selection committee will conduct the preliminary judging in order to determine 60 entries, in accordance with the contest regulations and the number of views received.
The screening event is going to be taken place for three days and one entry that deserves the grand prize will be determined following the two "Semi-Final rounds" where 20 entries are selected. In the screening event that proceeds in the style of a talk event, we will invite people from many different countries as a judge and make an opportunity where audience can participate in the selection.

Ichiya Nakamura

Chief of Jury Ichiya Nakamura
Born in 1961. He graduated from the Kyoto University Faculty of Economics. He obtained his doctorate from Keio University.
He is the chairman of the Cabinet Secretariat Intellectual Property Strategy Headquarters' Task Force on Contents and Japan Brand, an expert committee member of the Telecommunications Council, Information and Communications Policy Committee Digital Content Trading Promotion Committee while also working as the Executive Director of You Go Lab and Vice President of CANVAS, an NPO. He has written a number of works, including co-authorship of "Dejitaru Saineeji Kakumei (Digital Synergy Revolution)" (published by Asahi Shimbun Publications Inc.).

 
Itsuji Itao

Itsuji Itao
Born in Osaka in 1963. Formed a comedy duo "130R" with Honkon. Appeared mainly on TV variety shows that made him well-known as a top performer of "Ogiri" and is now around as an actor in TV dramas, in films, on stages as well as a writer. His acting makes an outstanding impression on the audience. He made his feature film directorial debut with last year's "THE KING OF JAIL BREAKERS".

  Ellie Omiya

Ellie Omiya
Ellie Omiya was born in Osaka Prefecture in 1975. She is a movie director, screenwriter and writer.
She graduated from the Faculty of Pharmaceutical Sciences at the University of Tokyo. While working at major advertising agency Dentsu Inc. she was active as a copywriter and commercial planner before she went off on her own. While working as a screenwriter and producer on the TV drama "Kinoshita Bucho to Boku (Manager Kinoshita and I)" she has also serialized such works as "Ginza" and "papyrus" and, at the same time, has been involved in commercial planning and as a producer of many commercials, music videos and on stage.

■Selection process

If your work is one of the 60 that pass the preliminary stage and is selected for the semi-final, you will be informed by e-mail from the "World Wide Laugh" office.

■Uploads for our video page

Your works are being uploaded to our video page in the order they are submitted.There may be congestion as the deadline approaches. Please submit early to avoid delay.
All submitted works will be listed on the World Wide Laugh submissions page.
