The up-coming second Okinawa International Movie Festival will be based on the concept of “Laugh and Peace.”

Through the medium of movies and videos, this festival (hereafter the OIMF) is going to send out a message of “Laugh and Peace” to the world.

The OIMF grew out of the executive committee’s desire to create a new type of festival one at which we can all come to understand one another through movies and videos.

This desire was brought to fruition in the shape of the first OIMF, which was staged in March of last year. Featuring superb movie and video submissions, this event proved to be a runaway success.

I would like to take this opportunity to extend my heartfelt gratitude to all those whose efforts have made this second edition of the OIMF possible the people of Okinawa Prefecture and the town of Chatan, the producers, the directors, the volunteers, and the companies and organizations which have lent their support and cooperation.

I hope that as producers and directors from all over the world gather for the OIMF in Okinawa (the perfect location for the festival), the interchange between them will spawn a new brand of culture one that is just like an Okinawan stew.
As this will probably require that all who attend the OIMF enjoy themselves as thoroughly as possible, we are planning to stage various musical and comedy events alongside the movie screenings. We hope that you will attend these events as well, and thus derive even greater enjoyment from the OIMF.

The aims of the OIMF are to contribute to the promotion and development of Japan’s content industry by using the festival to establish a wide-ranging international content promotion network, and to attempt to promote and develop local industries, such as the Okinawan content industry and the Okinawan tourist industry.
As we strive to make even more significant contributions in the future to the promotion and development of both local industry and the content industry in general, we appreciate your continuing support for the OIMF.
